I was deeply offended by a Christianist minister that came to our door many many years ago. He was the pastor of a large Baptist church in our community. My wife and I greeted him warmly and invited him into our home. We thought we might have a pleasant visit. Minutes later, Deb was asking him to leave. We hadn't invited him in to disparage our church and question our relationship with Jesus Christ.
"Question" is actually incorrect -- he stated quite boldly that unless we accepted Jesus Christ we would burn in Hell. You see, that minister's brand of Christianism gives him the right and the obligation to JUDGE. And, he did. Shortly after crossing the threshold of our home he was telling us how very wrong we were and all that going to Hell shit. It didn't matter what we said because his mind was closed to the possiblity that anyone from my faith could go to Heaven. He totally rejected our "Christian Witness".
Yes, Christianists love to be lions and eat Christians.
I have to admit that I couldn't just let him walk away after Deb's demand. I followed him to the bottom step of the porch and as he walked away -- I brushed the dust off my clothes and shoes. I really shouldn't have done it -- but I was taught that sometimes you have to walk away. I put him in God's hands.
Senator Barack Obama is continually having his Christianity questioned. TV and radio "ministers" just won't take Obama at his word. I guess when someone tells you that he submitted his life to Jesus Christ it isn't rude to say "No, you didn't!" I got an email today and was sadly informed that several Christianist groups were already ripping apart the Matthew 25 Network radio ad. The letter had a link to one site where some guy claims that the Matthew 25 Network's radio ad is going to cause traffic accidents. What? Christianists can't drive and condemn people to Hell at the same time?
James "I'm not a minister, but I play one on the radio" Dobson seems to be the worst Christianist hate-monger so far. I feel so very sorry for these guys. Don't they realize that "if it doesn't invite you to Christ, it is not of God"? Unfortunately, there are no invitiations to Christ just solicitations for money so they may continue their hate. There are no invitations to the listeners/viewers to become as Christ and feed the poor, give drink to the thirsty, take in the stranger, clothe the naked, heal the sick, and visit those in prison.
Just hate. And, it is so very very sad....
Matthew 25:35-40 - "'For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you took care of Me; I was in prison and you visited Me.' Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or without clothes and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and visit You?' And the King will answer them, 'I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.''
Matthew 25:41-46 - "Then He will also say to those on the left, 'Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels! For I was hungry and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger and you didn't take Me in; I was naked and you didn't clothe Me, sick and in prison and you didn't take care of Me'… Then He will answer them, 'I assure you: Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me either.' And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
You may donate to the Matthew 25 Network here. I just might be able to find the $35 to run a radio ad somewhere once more...
