I have many and not so frequent pet peeves. One of them is the use of native languages in country names. For example, in the English speaking world we refer to and write about the country of Italia as Italy, Deutschland as Germany, and Polska as Poland. Why can't we just use the proper spellings and learn to pronounce the place names correctly?
And, it is perfectly okay for the Chinese to insist we call Peking by the name they chose and for the nation of India to call Bombay by its pre-colonial name..... geography geeks know what I mean.....
